Delete your Notora account

You can delete your Notora sync account and the encrypted notes we hold for you at any time. Notora's sync is optional, so if you never turned it on you don't have an account to delete — uninstalling the app removes everything from your device.

1. From inside the app

  1. Open Notora on your iOS or Android device.
  2. Go to Settings → Sync → Account.
  3. Tap Delete account and confirm.

Your sync account enters a 30-day grace period (see Timing below). You will receive a confirmation email when the request is lodged, and a second email when it is finalised.

2. Without the app

If you can't access the app, email us from the address you signed up with at hello [at] fivehy [dot] com with the subject line "Delete my Notora account". We will verify the request, lodge the deletion, and email you when it's done. The same 30-day grace period applies.

3. What gets deleted

  • Your sync account (email and hashed authentication secret).
  • The end-to-end encrypted note ciphertext stored on our servers.
  • Device sync metadata.

Because sync is end-to-end encrypted, we never had the keys to read your notes — but the ciphertext is permanently removed all the same.

4. Notes on your device

Notes that only ever lived on your device stay on your device. To remove them, delete the app or wipe its data from your phone's settings — Apple and Google both clear the app's local storage when it is uninstalled.

5. What we may keep

We may retain a minimal record for legal, accounting, fraud-prevention or audit purposes where required by applicable law (typically up to 7 years for financial records). This record does not contain your notes.

6. Timing — the 30-day grace period

When you request deletion, your sync account enters a 30-day grace period. During this time:

  • Your account is frozen — sync cannot run.
  • The encrypted ciphertext is held but is not used for any purpose other than completing the deletion.
  • Signing back into the App cancels the deletion and restores the account as it was. We do this so a misclick — or someone else using your device — can't permanently lose your sync data.

After 30 days the deletion is final. Your sync account and every encrypted blob linked to it are permanently and irreversibly deleted, including from our backup cycle. We cannot restore them after this point under any circumstances. Notes that only ever lived on your device are unaffected.
